ItInsightsWorld General: Targus DOCK402TT Combines a USB-C Dock and GaN Charger

For users who want a compact desk setup without carrying separate accessories, Targus positions the DOCK402TT as a dual-purpose USB-C docking station and GaN charger. The product is aimed at travel, hybrid offices and quick meeting-room connections: once it is plugged into wall power, a host laptop can be linked with one USB-C cable while display, network and peripheral connections remain available.

Where the DOCK402TT fits

Instead of packing both a dock and an independent power adapter, the DOCK402TT merges those roles into a single unit. In a temporary workspace, the same cable link can support an external monitor, wired networking and attached peripherals, while the charger portion supplies power to a compatible notebook.

Ports and data paths

  • one HDMI port: supports a single 8K, 30Hz display.
  • two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port: each of the three data-capable downstream USB ports is rated up to 10Gbps.
  • one Gigabit Ethernet port: provides wired networking for laptops or other hosts that lack a native RJ45 connection.

Video output relies on USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode. No dedicated driver installation is required, but the host device’s USB-C port must support that video mode for display output to work.

Power delivery behavior

The built-in GaN charger can provide up to 140W USB PD 3.1 EPR power delivery to compatible devices. For hosts that support USB PD 3.0, the negotiated charging power can reach up to 100W. Targus notes that 140W is the device’s maximum capability, while power is allocated dynamically when peripherals are attached. If all three downstream USB ports are in use, the laptop may receive up to 100W.

Without connection to wall power, the dock can still operate from host USB-C power, but it cannot charge the laptop. In that mode, the functions actually available from attached interfaces depend on how much power the host can provide.

Compatibility, size and warranty

The DOCK402TT is compatible with devices running Windows, macOS, iPadOS, Android, Chrome OS and Linux. Its body measures about 7.95×7.95×5.08 centimeters and weighs about 0.37 kilograms. The package includes a USB-C host cable and a power cord. The chassis uses up to 75% post-consumer recycled aluminum and plastic, and Targus backs it with a three-year limited warranty.

Availability and practical limits

Availability is listed through the Targus official site and participating retailers, with a retail price of 139.99 USD. Achieving the upper endpoints—such as 8K video output or 140W charging—still depends on the host port, the connected device and the cable meeting the required specifications.
