ItInsightsWorld: Samsung Pushes Fold Credibility as iPhone Duo Troubles Fuel Rivalry

Marketing message: experience before novelty

Samsung has introduced a promotional set built around three taglines: “Folding is nothing new for us,” “We know more than a little about folding,” and “Switch to the Galaxy Z Fold8.” The campaign leans on Samsung’s long history with foldable displays while lightly poking at the early issues faced by Apple’s iPhone Duo.

A Samsung spokesperson described the effort as “a light-hearted new marketing campaign,” noting that it addresses the intensifying conversation around the foldable phone market and emphasizes why industry experience matters in this category.

From first fold to eighth generation

Samsung entered the foldable category early, launching its first Galaxy Fold smartphone in September 2019. The latest Galaxy Z Fold8 arrived about three months ahead of iPhone Duo, extending Samsung’s foldable line into its eighth generation.

User reports and Apple response

Soon after iPhone Duo reached the market, some users reported hinge-related problems, followed by cracks in the internal OLED display. The failures tended to cluster near the same area around the folding section, producing visible bright lines and affecting visual output. Although the number of affected devices was not large, the cases spread quickly across social platforms and technology communities.

Apple said it was aware of the situation and stated that only a small number of iPhone Duo units were impacted. The company added that defective products often reveal problems during early use, and users encountering such faults can contact AppleCare to arrange a replacement.

Apple also highlighted favorable feedback since the launch and said developers are moving quickly to adapt apps for the product’s unique folding design. The company maintains that the screen issue affects only an extremely small share of devices and will not change overall market performance.

Stock, delivery and price comparison

Despite the controversy, demand for iPhone Duo remains strong. Apple’s online orders are showing delivery dates in January next year, while selected physical stores receive inventory at irregular intervals. Samsung, by contrast, is not facing notable supply pressure with Galaxy Z Fold8; most color and storage variants can still ship within a short period.

Competition sharpens

With Apple formally in the foldable arena, Samsung and Apple are now competing more directly on product maturity, reliability and user experience. The exchange of advertisements and real-world issues shows how closely the two major manufacturers are watching each other in this emerging phone segment.
