ItInsightsWorld reports the product launch from CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA — October 26, 2026: Apple’s redesigned iPad mini is a palm-sized tablet built around an 8.5-inch OLED display, A20 Pro performance, iPadOS 27, and an IP67 rating. The model pairs a thinner and lighter enclosure with a nano-texture option, Center Stage, Acoustic Display, faster wireless, and pre-order dates that begin Wednesday, October 28.
The original iPad mini positioning remains: Apple wants users to hold the complete iPad experience in one hand. The new display grows to 8.5 inches while keeping the footprint, and the system layer adds Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, which can use personal context, answer broad questions, and understand onscreen content. Customers can order the tablet and Smart Folio on Wednesday, October 28, with delivery and in-store availability starting Friday, November 6 in 36 countries and regions, including the U.S.
“iPad mini is beloved for its fantastic portability, performance, and display by a wide range of users, from creators and small business owners to doctors, field service workers, and gamers,” said Dave Pakula, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering. “With a remarkably thinner and lighter design, a stunning new OLED display, the incredibly powerful A20 Pro, and water and dust resistance, the new iPad mini is a huge leap forward for users who love having the full iPad experience in the palm of their hand.”
Creators, small business owners, doctors, field service workers, gamers, and other users value iPad mini for portability, performance, and display.
At 5.4 mm thin, the tablet is more portable than before and is offered in midnight and starlight. Its IP67 rating helps protect against splashes, water, and dust for work on a rainy day or reading near a pool.

A starlight finish rounds out the two-color lineup.
The iPad mini now ships with an IP67 rating for water and dust protection.
The larger 8.5-inch OLED display is a Super Retina XDR panel that uses OLED pixel-level lighting, P3 wide color, and 24 percent thinner bezels to keep the footprint while adding screen size. Peak brightness reaches 1200 nits, giving more than 2x higher peak brightness than the previous model; full-screen brightness is 600 nits for SDR and HDR content, with 2,000,000:1 contrast and 1-nit minimum brightness for dim environments. A nano-texture option, familiar from iPad Pro, is also offered to reduce glare for pilots, field technicians, and creatives working outdoors.

A20 Pro uses 2-nanometer process technology and a package inspired by M-series chips. Its 7-core GPU includes Neural Accelerators in each GPU core, delivering up to 4.5x faster AI performance than the prior model; that is relevant to running local LLMs or AI features inside creative apps. The graphics architecture supports dynamic caching, mesh shading and ray tracing, raising graphics performance by up to 2.7x for gaming and 3D rendering. A 6-core CPU can provide 60 percent faster multithreaded performance in photo editing and multitasking.
A20 Pro boosts graphics and AI-heavy workloads in iPad mini.
The 512GB configuration includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, doubling the prior generation’s processing power for tasks in Draw Things and Detail. When all 32 cores are engaged, the chip handles more advanced on-device AI workloads. The architecture also brings over a 2x increase in unified memory bandwidth, improving responsiveness in graphics and AI apps such as Procreate Dreams.
Faster CPU, GPU, and unified memory help apps like Procreate Dreams.
The Acoustic Display uses specially designed woofers coupled through the display for stronger bass and more volume, while custom tweeters are hidden between glass and aluminum for clearer highs. The sealed design supports the IP67 rating. The front camera is a 12MP Center Stage camera on the landscape edge for FaceTime calls and video conferences. The rear 12MP Wide camera captures photos with Smart HDR 4 and 4K video at up to 60 fps; Adaptive True Tone flash improves low-light photos and document scanning.

N1 is Apple’s wireless networking chip that enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. It improves connections to 5GHz Wi-Fi networks and strengthens AirDrop and AirPlay reliability. Cellular iPad mini models include C2, which supports up to 50 percent faster cellular data speeds than the prior model. iPadOS 27 also makes transitions between cellular and Wi-Fi smoother during FaceTime, while eSIM allows plans to be added, transferred, and managed digitally.
N1 and C2 bring faster wireless and cellular connectivity to iPad mini.
iPad mini users get iPadOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, which is rolling out in beta. Siri AI can use personal context, onscreen awareness, and broad knowledge to answer questions. Apple’s most advanced on-device model improves dictation and voices.
Apple Intelligence tools include upgraded Clean Up, Spatial Reframing, and Extend; the all-new Image Playground app; and Safari Notify Me for monitoring page changes such as restocks or price drops. Privacy is addressed through on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute; when Private Cloud Compute handles requests, personal data is not stored or made accessible to Apple or anyone else.
iPadOS 27 also updates Liquid Glass with a slider from ultraclear to fully tinted, and iPadOS 27.2 adds extended display mode for windowed multitasking with Exposé. Parental tools help manage what children see, who they can talk to, and when apps are accessible; Apple also provides online information about those tools.
Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are intended to help users move faster on iPad mini.
iPadOS 27 adds windowed multitasking, window tiling, and Exposé for productivity.
The Smart Folio uses a two-panel TechWoven cover in navy blue and taupe, magnetically attaches to iPad mini, and adds adjustable viewing angles. iPad mini supports Apple Pencil (USB-C) and Apple Pencil Pro. Apple Pencil (USB-C) is suited for notes and sketching, while Apple Pencil Pro offers squeeze, barrel roll, and Find My support for locating a misplaced pencil. These tools work across drawing apps including Procreate.
The TechWoven Smart Folio is offered in navy blue and taupe.
Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C) are compatible with iPad mini.
iPad mini is tied to Apple’s plan to become carbon neutral by 2030. The device uses 35 percent recycled content overall, with 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure and 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery. Manufacturing uses 40 percent renewable energy across the supply chain, and packaging uses 100 percent fiber-based paper materials. It is designed for durability and repairability and meets Apple energy-efficiency and chemistry standards.
iPad mini is offered in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB configurations, in midnight and starlight. Pre-orders start Wednesday, October 28 in 36 countries and regions, including the U.S., and availability at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Resellers begins Friday, November 6.
