A spec sheet shared on Weibo suggests Apple's next entry-level iPhone is shaping up as a performance story rather than a screen story. In a recent post, tipster Digital Chat Station described the planned iPhone 18e as a device pairing a 6.12-inch LTPS OLED display and the A20 chip with a single 48-megapixel rear camera, while the refresh rate reportedly remains at 60Hz. The selfie camera carries the softest language of all, mentioned only as a possible step up to 24 megapixels.
Apple released iPhone 17e this year with an A19 chip, a 6.1-inch OLED panel, a 48-megapixel rear camera and a 12-megapixel TrueDepth front camera. Against that baseline, the rumored 24-megapixel front shooter would double the selfie pixel count, whereas the rear module would keep the same single 48-megapixel arrangement. The tipster did not say whether the sensor or lens construction would also change.
| Feature | iPhone 17e (this year) | iPhone 18e (per the leak) |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 6.1-inch OLED | 6.12-inch LTPS OLED |
| Refresh rate | Not restated in the leak | Still 60Hz; no ProMotion |
| Chip | A19, built on a 3-nanometer node per earlier roadmap predictions | A20, forecast for a 2-nanometer node |
| Rear camera | Single 48-megapixel | Single 48-megapixel, no hardware uplift rumored |
| Front camera | 12-megapixel TrueDepth | Possibly 24-megapixel, twice the current figure |
The node information does not come from this particular leak. Earlier predictions about Apple's chip roadmap indicate the A20 is expected to adopt a 2-nanometer process; if that proves right, it would hand the iPhone 18e a performance and efficiency edge over the 3-nanometer A19 inside iPhone 17e. The reporting itself flags uncertainty on both counts: the A20's node is not confirmed by the Weibo post, and the 24-megapixel figure is treated as questionable, possibly a mix-up with Apple's next-generation front camera specification. Image quality, in any case, cannot be judged on megapixels alone.
On the panel side, iPhone 18e is said to retain an LTPS panel driven at 60Hz, which means ProMotion high-refresh support stays absent from this tier. The 6.12-inch measurement sits close to the roughly 6.1-inch displays of iPhone 16e and 17e, and the rear camera remains a single-camera setup with no notable upgrade rumor attached. A higher refresh rate panel may not reach this line until iPhone 19e, at the earliest in 2028 — a claim that is likewise only a rumor for now.
Apple has not unveiled iPhone 18e and has not confirmed any of the specifications above. Should the rumored schedule materialize, the handset would appear in spring 2027 alongside the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2, with the exact date still reserved for an official Apple statement.
