The trouble has not fully cleared for Changpeng Zhao. This time, the interaction came from Elon Musk, the world's richest man, and it arrived in a public reply thread on the social platform X.
Under Zhao's post reassuring users and promising compensation, one X user attached a screenshot of a similar statement once made by Bankman-Fried, the notorious crypto figure who was formerly Zhao's rival. Elon Musk then responded to that reply with a frowning emoji.
Five hours after Musk's reaction, Zhao answered directly. “Elon, I deeply respect you, but this is not a time for jokes,” he wrote. “Please don't do this.”

Zhao said he understood the apparent support behind Musk's response. “I know you love us and always support us, but you over-read this situation, and in a bad way,” he wrote.
He also set out the numerical point behind the concern. “Our SpaceX stake is now worth more than $1 billion; those shares came from the $500 million we put in when you acquired Twitter,” Zhao said.

That clarification turns a brief emoji exchange into a public explanation of a stake whose value, source and scale were laid out by Changpeng Zhao in figures.
