A new MacBook Pro update from Apple is shifting attention away from the usual specification checklist and toward how its logo is illuminated, because the display architecture behind the machine has changed.
John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, wrote on X that the company is incredibly excited about the new MacBook Pro, adding that it lights up and that you need to touch it to believe it.
Earlier glowing-logo designs depended on light coming from the display backlight. The new MacBook Pro uses a PROLED XDR display, and its OLED panel works by letting each pixel emit its own light rather than relying on a separate backlight source. As a result, lighting the logo now requires a different method.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,899, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $3,399.
For ItInsightsWorld readers following the MacBook Pro launch, the most practical takeaway is that the logo-lighting change reflects the move to a self-emissive display system, while the entry prices remain the clearest purchasing reference.
