ItInsightsWorld approaches the iPad mini 8 as Apple’s smallest tablet in the iPadOS range, now built around an 8.5-inch OLED display rather than the former 8.3-inch panel. It is not a foldable device, but it is compared with the iPhone Duo, whose screen expands to 7.6 inches. Apple is presented as not worried about the two devices taking users from one another, because the iPad mini and iPhone Duo offer different experiences; someone who already owns an iPhone Duo may not feel a direct need to buy the iPad mini.
OLED is new to the iPad mini. The prior concern was the “jelly effect” that appeared when scrolling, and Apple described it as normal at the time; with the move to OLED, real-world behavior will still need to be tested. The machine also supports Apple Pencil (USB-C) and Apple Pencil Pro.

The iPad mini 8 is powered by the A20 Pro chip. The 128GB and 256GB versions use a five-core CPU, made of two performance cores and three efficiency cores, together with a 16-core Neural Engine. The 512GB version, priced at $999, uses a six-core CPU and dual 16-core Neural Engines. Apple positions this hardware so the device can remain smooth across its usable life.
| Storage configuration | CPU and Neural Engine detail | Listed pricing note |
|---|---|---|
| 128GB | five-core CPU with two performance cores and three efficiency cores; 16-core Neural Engine | $699 starting price |
| 256GB | five-core CPU with two performance cores and three efficiency cores; 16-core Neural Engine | optional storage tier |
| 512GB | six-core CPU; dual 16-core Neural Engines | $999 |
The new iPad mini places the front camera at the center of the horizontal long edge, supports Center Stage for keeping a person centered, and follows the design language used by other iPad models. It also receives IP67 dust and water resistance certification for the first time; earlier iPad mini models did not carry an official protection rating. The caution attached to the IP67 rating is that it concerns static liquid immersion, not showers, bathroom steam, or spray; accidental drops into liquid or liquid splashes usually will not damage the device.
Connectivity specifications also advance. The iPad mini 8 supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, providing faster speeds and better connections for users with compatible new routers and accessories. The cellular version uses Apple’s C2 baseband and supports 5G sub-6GHz networks plus gigabit-class LTE.
Preorders begin on October 28, with delivery expected to start on November 6. Cellular-network prices are described as rising depending on configuration. The future of the iPad mini line is still uncertain: foldable products such as iPhone Duo create the possibility that the iPad mini could eventually be replaced. For now, it remains the closest option in Apple’s lineup to the “pocket tablet” role.
