Apple Inc. said on October 31 that the first wave of Apple Intelligence features for China is moving into its release-preparation phase. The company positioned the capabilities as an artificial-intelligence system embedded in iPhone use for writing, communication, creation and information handling. The earliest access is planned for November 4 through the newest iOS developer beta, while the consumer-facing version is scheduled for December with iOS 27.3. Additional support on other platforms is expected after required approvals are completed.
The China-specific approach depends on cooperation between Apple and Alibaba, bringing Qwen model capabilities into selected Apple Intelligence experiences. Users can reach Qwen through Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence, covering text understanding, image understanding and content generation.
Apple's first feature set covers translation, writing, image work, mail management and notification handling. Real-time translation lets users exchange messages or speak across languages inside Messages, FaceTime and Phone. Devices with active noise cancellation, including AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2 and later models, can also support real-time translation during face-to-face conversations.
Writing Tools can rewrite, proofread and summarize text. The new Create function in system-level Writing Tools can call Qwen to produce original content. Visual Intelligence uses the iPhone camera to recognize nearby objects or places and provide immediate information. In Photos, the Clean Up tool removes distracting elements while keeping the scene natural, and natural-language search lets users find photos or videos by describing them. Short text prompts can also generate memory films.
Apple is adding Genmoji for personalized expression: users can describe an emoji in words and generate a custom one for different conversation situations.
Mail receives a Priority Mail area at the top of the inbox to surface important items such as boarding passes or same-day invitations. Email summaries condense long or complex threads, while Smart Reply suggestions help handle routine communication. Notification Summary organizes lengthy or grouped alerts, and Critical Notifications keeps urgent items at the top. Focus modes reduce interruptions by allowing only time-sensitive messages.
Apple Intelligence can also summarize audio transcriptions in Notes and summarize call transcriptions to make key points easier to review.
Siri has been revised for more natural interaction and direct typed conversations. It can understand incomplete or loosely connected phrasing and keep context through follow-ups. When a request needs broader knowledge, Siri can access Qwen. Users can ask about photos and documents, including PDF files and presentations, after signing in with a Qwen account or using Apple sign-in.
Apple stated that the first China release does not include Siri AI or other next-generation Apple Intelligence features announced at WWDC 2026. The core features will support iPhone 16 series and later models, iPhone Duo, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone Air. Device language and Siri language must be set to English and Simplified Chinese, while some capabilities may vary by language or region.
This staged introduction gives China users a clear route from beta testing to a stable iOS release, with Qwen-enhanced writing, translation, visual understanding and notification handling forming the practical baseline.
